The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Osun State Chapter, has appealed to those determined to participate in the proposed nationwide hunger protest to exercise caution and refrain from any action capable of thrown the nation into chaos.
In a statement released by the chairman of the council, Pastor Victor Akande, and made available to our reporter in Osogbo, IPAC said in as much as it is the right of citizens to protest whenever they feel things are not going as expected, yet, such right must be with extreme caution.
According to IPAC, ''We perfectly understand the present economic situation and the hardship with lack of hope it has caused Nigerians. It's natural to feel agitated and want to demand better from our leaders/political rulers.
''While we acknowledged the fact that it is your right to protest and express your grievances, however, we appeal to you to exercise your right with caution, we can not afford to lose anyone, IPAC cherishes the lives of all indigenes and non-indigenes residing within the Osun state.
''We are not oblivious to the sad incidents that trailed some protest in the past and the fear that has gripped the mind of many citizens as a result of the sad experiences of the past protest especially the last ENDSARS.
''We, Osun state IPAC, under the leadership of Pastor Victor Akande, do not want anybody to get hurt, arrested or caught up in any nefarious activities during this protest.
''Therefore, it is our candid advice for all those individuals and groups that will be involved in the proposed protest scheduled to begin on 1st of August 2024 to 10th of August, 2024, not to allow hoodlums, thugs, thieves etc to highjack their peaceful protest thereby leading to looting and destruction of government or citizens' properties.
''Do not allow disgruntled politicians to use you as a tools of vendetta against any individual, political office holders, and the government of the day.
''We call on various law enforcement agencies, police, civil defense, Amotekun etc to carry out their legitimate duty of protecting the lives and property of the citizens with all sense of responsibility, decency, and professionalism.
''They should not carry out their duty in any manner that may provoke the protestants and cause chaos in the State.
''We implore the State government not to see or use the protest as avenue to deal negatively with any individual or groups but yield to the people's requests about the economics situation of the nation.
Because it's only in a peaceful environment that meaningful development can be achieved.
''We are not in the dark to various steps been taken by the government both at Federal and State level to alleviate the hardship in the land and ameliorate the living standard of every citizens through various intervention such as sharing of foods and conditional fund transfer to support the vulnerable ones.
''We need to support the government at all levels with prayers and strive to be a good, law abiding citizens wherever we may find ourselves.
''The character and attitude of people at the corridor of power is the true reflection of the character and attitude of the people of the land. We believe that when individual citizen resolved to be a better and responsible citizen, our government will get better, our country will get better. This is one of the ways to end bad governance.
''It is our prayers that God will guide and help our Governor, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, in his endeavour to better the lives of our people in Osun State.
