In the midst of globalization, a quiet revolution was excellently executed on the 25th day, of June 2024. It was the traditional wedding of my son , David Adedeji Adeleke aka Davido and his beautiful wife Chioma. It was a day to promote the concept of : Think local and Act local, in order for us to rediscover the power of our own communities and harness their potential. This philosophy is not about isolationism or protectionism, but about empowerment and sustainable growth. The Principal of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, at the famous Wesley College, Elekuro, Ibadan, Rev E H Nightingale B. D, way back in 1929 was an advocate of this all important principle. According to him, " we should be proud of anything that was indigenous to us: our language, our culture and our style of dress"
When we think local, we recognize the unique strengths and resources that exist within our own backyard. We acknowledge the small businesses, the family-owned enterprises, the local farmers, and the artisans who are the backbone of our economy. We understand that every Naira or Dollar spent locally generates a ripple effect, creating jobs, stimulating innovation, and fostering a sense of community.
Acting local means we take action to support and celebrate our local treasures. We shop at neighborhood stores, dine at family-owned restaurants, bukatarias, and promote local events.
By thinking local and acting local, we:
- Boost the local economy
- Preserve community character
- Support entrepreneurship and innovation
- Enhance quality of life
- Foster a sense of belonging
It is very important now to embrace this philosophy and watch our communities flourish. Let us think local, act local, and build a brighter future from the ground up . To the Adeleke's and Ejiofor's, we sincerely appreciate them for unknowingly reopening the discussion on, Thinking Local and Acting Local in a 21st century, Nigeria.
Think Local, Act Local movement may however be suggested all over Nigeria. To build a beautiful future,we must think local and act local. May the good Lord bless the new home of David and Chioma, Congratulations.
