Stop Toying With Wellbeing Of The People, Recall Sacked Health Workers Recruited Under Oyetola - Osun APC Tells Adeleke
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has bemoaned the pitiable plight of the health sector under the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing it as the worst that could ever happen to the 33-year-old state.
According to the Osun State chairman of the APC, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement issued by the party's Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, today, the unpalatable situation the state is finding itself under the maladministration of Governor Adeleke, is disheartening and calls for urgent concern.
Lawal stated that it was the height of cruelty for a supposed democratic government to pay lip service to the health sector by refusing to engage the needed manpower only in the desperation to conserve money to prosecute future elections.
He explained that it was gratuitous that a representative of the state government, in the person of Dr Adekunle Akindele, could be so arrogant, dismissive and unconcerned to state that the administration under which he is serving as the Special Adviser on Health Matters, has been delaying the recruitment of health officers because it is awaiting the outcome of the minimum wage.
Dr Akindele, an indigene of Ondo State, earlier today in a social media discussion had disclosed that "we made our need assignment when we came in as government (sic) and realized that the Primary Healthcare centres alone require about 9,000 health workers to work efficiently and effectively and we have done all needed to be done to recruit in phases until the present minimum wage issues came up".
According to the state APC chairman: "In the first instance, why did Governor Adeleke sack the health workers recruited by the former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, on assumption of office when he knew he wasn't having an immediate solution to the health problems in the state?
"Why did Governor Adeleke sack health workers recruited by his predecessor when he knew well that the state had shortfall of doctors and other health workers?
"Is Governor Adeleke waiting for the people of the state to die before he addresses the health issues in the state with the speed it requires?
"Will it not be right to conclude that the decision to sack health workers as well as the current lackadaisical handling of health issues by Governor Adeleke was callous given that the Governor and members of his household could afford to run abroad, as they have done many times, to access quality healthcare?
"Governor Adeleke should wake up and stop insulting the collective sensibilities of the people of the state. The health sector needs his urgent attention.", the Osun State APC chairman counselled.
