An FRSC officer was injured on Friday by a driver on the Osogbo/Gbongan Road near the Osun Government Secretariat in Abere.
The incident happened when FRSC officers at a roadblock near the Osun Sector Headquarters signaled the driver of the Lexus Jeep to stop.
Ignoring the signals, the driver continued at high speed, hitting the officer and dragging him along the road until he fell off the vehicle.
Two roadside traders, Fatai and Ramota Olagunju, witnessed the incident and stated that the driver did not stop after the officer fell, instead, sped off towards Akoda Junction.
Fatai reported that the hit-and-run incident occurred between 9 and 9:30 am on Friday. The driver was traveling from Osogbo towards Gbongan. FRSC officers, stationed near their headquarters, signaled the driver to stop, but he ignored them.
Instead, the driver hit an officer and dragged him along the road before speeding off towards Akoda Junction.
The injured FRSC officer eventually fell off the vehicle, prompting his colleagues to mobilize and pursue the hit-and-run driver. However, it is unclear if they apprehended the driver.
FRSC Osun Sector Commander, Inyang Umoh, confirmed the incident and stated that the injured officer is in stable condition. Umoh added that efforts are ongoing to arrest the driver, who remains at large.
