Go into farming to promote food security in Nigeria - IGP's wife encourages women


Wife of the Inspector General of Police and President of Police Officers’ Wives Association, POWA, Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun has encouraged women to venture into farming through ”Young Women in Agriculture under the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA),

to promote food security in the country.

She stated this on Thursday during the distribution of different equipment to empower over hundred widows of the fallen policemen and less privileged in Osun.

Egbetokun noted that to pave way for food sufficiency in the country, farming must not be left for only men, women must also brace up to the challenge.  

Some of the equipment distributed at the programme are sewing machines, grinding machines, make-up tools, dryers, cooking gas with big burners, hundreds of 25kg bags of rice among others.

In her words, “It’s with great pleasure that I am here before you today as the National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), representing the dedicated spouses of our nation’s law enforcement officers.

“As we embark on this working visit to the Osun State Police Command, I extend my warmest gratitude to the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Police Command; CP Umar Abba Muhammed for hosting us.

“The women of POWA are the unsung heroes behind the badge, providing unwavering support to our spouses as they uphold the law and protect our communities.

“Our association serves as a vital network of support, fostering unity, resilience, and empowerment among police families nationwide.

Mrs Egbetokun lauded the Commissioner of Police for Osun State Police Command, CP Umar Abba Muhammed, just as she charged him to continue in ensuring that the state continues to enjoy tranquility.

“CP Umar Abba Muhammed, your leadership is pivotal in ensuring the safety and security of Osun State, and we commend your tireless efforts in this regard. Together, we can further strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

“I look forward to fruitful discussions and partnerships that will benefit the brave men and women of the Osun State Police Command. Let us continue to stand united in our commitment to building safer, stronger, and more resilient communities,” she added.

One of the empowered widows, Mrs Atinuke appreciated Mrs Egbetokun for the kind gesture, stressed that equipment given to her will go a long way in sustaining a good living for her and her children.
