Urhobo Leaders Rally Support For A Female Lawmaker Over Speakership

"We need a quality candidate, a level headed individual"

TOP leaders of the Urhobo Nation on Tuesday advised Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori to drop his ambition to become the Delta State House of Assembly Speaker in June.

"We need a quality candidate, a level headed individual"

The declaration was made in Abuja shortly after the presentation of the name of the member representing Ethiope West to the National Leadership of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

"We are against cheap weapons of threat, selfish interest and dictatorial tendencies. We are for negotiation and consensus building " a statement by the chairman, Urhobo National Forum (UNF) Chief Matthew Odiete said.

The leaders said Deltans must resolve that whoever would be speaker in June should be intellectually fit.

The leaders said they had considered all the options available to the Urhobo Nation in the 7th Assembly and came to the conclusion that the Ethiope West lawmaker is what Deltans should support for the position of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly.

"Those who support the need for a good leader will support her. She has the antidote to douse tension and make lawmakers and Assembly staff happy people "

Particularly, the leaders said the Ethiope West lawmaker has all the necessary qualities to replace the Okpe lawmaker based on her track records in Delta State and her political savvy which has made her the bride of all political groups in Delta State "
"The Ethiope West representative is a level headed woman who will carry everyone along if trusted with the speaker's position " the Urhobo leaders said.

The leaders said they were prepared to mobilise Deltans against Sheriff Oborevwori and other ambitious members of the Delta State House of Assembly.
