Ex gov meets former aides, discloses intention to contest Sept. guber poll

This year, precisely September 22, will be decisive for Osun state Governorship election, it was gathered, Oyinlola has been declaring his governorship ambition to some his former aides and local government chairmen that were in office when he reigned as governor at a meeting recently, ex Osun state governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola will contest September Osun governorship election.


An ex aide of Prince Oyinlola, who was at the meeting held in his Okuku country home few days ago told SPEARGISTS, the former governor told them he is interested in returning to OkeFia Osun Government House this September.


In the last few days, rumour has been going round about the intention of ex national secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest in the forthcoming governorship poll.


Prince Oyinlola neither confirm nor dismiss the insinuations despite huge interests the news generated on social media platforms.


It was reported that at the meeting, attended by some notable personalities in Osun politics few among whom were, Hon. Funmi Olasehinde, former chairman, Ifedayo local government, Oke Ila, Hon. Teslim Igbalaiye, former Osogbo local government chairman, and Alhaji Kassim Radio, former secretary to Osun state government, the declaration by Prince Oyinlola to contest attracted conflicting reactions from the attendees.

The age of Prince Oyinlola who recently marked his 67th birthday, other considerations like the ongoing agitations for the governorship seat to move to the West Senatorial District and the issue of the right political platform that can be used to achieve the goal, it was gathered made some of the people in attendance to see the project as a 'dead rubber.'

"But some of us at the meeting believe the project is realisable. For now, the project is real. Our boss (Prince Oyinlola) told us he planned to contest next governorship poll.


"Some people told him to drop the idea because of his age. Others said no solid political platform is available for such a project for now. 

There are other things discussed too. We will reconvene in the next few weeks to take a stand," an ex aide of former governor Oyinlola, who preferred not to be named said.

Prince Oyinlola was elected governor of Osun state on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), succeeding Chief Bisi Akande in April, 2003 and took oath of office on May 29, same year.

He was reelected on April 14, 2007 and reigned as governor until, Friday, November 26, 2010, when Justice Clara-Binta Ogunbiyi-led Ibadan Court of Appeal panel, annulled his election and declared Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, then of Action Congress (AC) the winner of the poll.

Oyinlola is presently a chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
